About

Welcome to Good Shepherd!
Jesus, the Good Shepherd, welcomes you, no matter who you are or where you come from—and so do we. We believe that Jesus Christ is the true Savior of all people. By his perfect life, innocent death, and triumphant resurrection, he saves all lost sinners even without our help. Jesus Christ makes us special people, right with God and ready for life! We learn this from the Bible, God’s authentic message of grace and guidance for us. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a curious observer with little religious background, we are delighted to share our worship with you.

WHO WE ARE
We are members of the WELS (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod), a group of Christians united by a common confession of faith, which we are happy to share with you.

Good Shepherd is a network of people just like you who live throughout the Corridor. We gather together around the Bible’s message of forgiveness and grace. We have a relationship with God because Jesus has made us part of his family, and it is our mission to connect with families throughout the area to share encouragement for daily life and hope for eternity.

Pastor Marques Nelson

Pastor Marques Nelson graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 2016 and was assigned to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.  Marques completed his pastoral internship at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Thornton, CO in 2015.  Before completing his seminary training, Marques worked as a Job Developer in Milwaukee, WI, finding and creating jobs for people with disabilities and disadvantages.  He loves to share the incredible message of Jesus with people over a good cup of coffee.

Marques and his wife, Corissa have been blessed with 3 children, Rivers, Oliver, and Adleigh.  Corissa earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee with a certificate in historical preservation.  Corissa currently works from home as a graphic designer and illustrator.  She specializes in worship art and church marketing materials and is also very excited to serve at Good Shepherd.

The Nelsons enjoy collecting new hobbies from hiking to bike riding, from exploring new communities and coffee shops to collecting various bluegrass instruments (now they just need to learn to play them). They are especially loving the Cedar Rapids Downtown Library and NewBo District.  Pastor Marques Nelson feels extremely blessed and excited to be called to serve the congregation at Good Shepherd and to reach out with the good news of Jesus to the surrounding community in Cedar Rapids, North Liberty, and beyond.

Emily Seeber

Emily is our K-8 teacher at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran School. She has a special interest in incorporating Spanish into our multi-grade classroom. Our small classroom size allows Emily to custom tailor the curriculum to meet the unique needs of each child. Good Shepherd's unique environment gives students the opportunity to work together with students of various ages. Students have the opportunity to learn how they are uniquely created, and loved by their Savior.
